To Blog Or Not To Blog??

A lot of people once they get into blogging they have to wonder well am I the only one or are there tons of people out there blogging? Believe or not there are tons of people who don't know that blogging is a big thing! It may seem unusual to some, but like I mentioned in my post WTF Is A Blog, it's been around for along time.

In the image below it tells you how many active blogs were in existence in 2011, well guess what?! Those numbers have gone up since then and there are more and more bloggers each day. Not everyone uses blogging as a diary or cathartic escape, not all of women who blog are mommies documenting little accomplishments made by mini-me's, and not all of us have the highest paying blog nor selling the bestest product that everyone needs in our lives. Some of us do it to connect with people, get to know more people, create a living even if the income is small, and some even blog for their job.

Like I mention in my welcome page, I started blogging to share my poetry which then turned into a cathartic way to express feelings I couldn't always convey to friends or family which then evolved into telling stories or things that happened so other people out there knew that they're not the only screw up in the world. However I will say that I did try earning an income from my blogging but unfortunately I wasn't so successful with the ads and "pay-per-clicks." Then one day a few weeks ago in the midst of looking for a small time gig to do since I do now need an income to take care of my house, car and myself. I happened to come across the site BlogSkinny. I will say right now I am very pleased with what I do, it's nothing much but it's enough for what I need, mostly for now that's gas money for the car but it's still worth it. I couldn't be happier coming across that link that night.

I know you're wondering well why did you click on a link to something you knew nothing about?? Yeah, yeah I know there's always a risk for a virus, but also I'm in the situation that I do need a job but I can't go look for one because I have so much going on with my house and getting business straightened out that I don't have ENOUGH time to work whether it's full time or part time and to tell Boss Man or Boss Lady I can't come to work because the electric or the gas company is coming to turn my utilities on or that Mr. Repair man is coming to fix my broken bathroom, leaky kitchen or Mr. Landscaper is here to trim down the jungle in my backyard is a DEFINITE no no! It's worst enough to just start a job and even more detrimental to take off more than the assigned time (if you aren't on probation) for something I knew ahead of time that needed my undivided attention.

But this job is nice, they tell me when they have a post for me to write, I do it, turn it in and then I do get paid. That's the best part, unlike many of other places I've tried, I either got paid in points or it turned out to be some bogus webinar on how to make money if I had a bank account full of millions. I say if you want a fresh and active mind and keep your writing and typing in check it's a great hobby to get into. Even if you post small posts or just pictures or keep it private, it's a nice learning tool and then you get to see what everyone else is doing in the blogosphere. And remember to always stand out as much as possible!

Art Portfolio Flashback

Now I recall being in college and when I was in the middle of switching my majors. I realized then I would not only need to transfer campuses but I also needed an art portfolio. Which isn't a bad idea when you've been working on it for years and building it up into a spectacular masterpiece. However I needed the portfolio if I wanted to go to the main campus (of Penn State) otherwise I wasn't allowed into the program. What made it worst because I was going into Integrative Arts with an emphasis in Visual Communications, I was required to have all art in my portfolio. So that mean, traditional drawing and paintings, multimedia based art, even video, film and three-dimentional art as well. Well I needed to take many more classes to get that far, heck I even need to have some computer aided drafting and architectural designs, even interior designs and all I had was my cute little doodles and paint by whatevers from my art classes.

However when I saw this picture, I was actually shocked but yet I was kind of happy. I wish there was such a thing when I was in college to help take off the frustration and pressures of putting a portfolio together. Because if it's not done in a professional matter; you will not be taken seriously and presentation is everything when it comes to the world of art and visuals. I think this is a wonderful idea even if a fee is charged, it's still worth it in the end if you've got the passion and the talent to become more than just a paint-by-numbers doodle artist. Then again if you're like me, just deciding that this is what you want to do, getting a portfolio together and not knowing what to put in it can be challenging. Every place is different but I say if you at least have a few works already that can be plus, and it can show the beholder how much you've grown and how much your art has evolved over the years. Here's a wonderful website here giving a basic example of what an art portfolio should house. Another good art portfolio is DeviantArt. Even though it's online based, it still gives you the chance to see what others have in their "portfolios" and give you an idea of what you should be doing. As well as you get to learn of all the different categories within the arts, if you find one you like then work on that and make that your strongest point while also engaging in other things you've never done before (find me on DeviantArt here).

I can honestly say I've always love drawing and coloring and enjoyed the outcome of everything I colored or drew. However over the recent years I took an interest in to manga and anime artwork. I find it beautiful, colorful and unique in its own way. Was I mangaka no, am I now after going to Manga Univeristy? No. But I found something I enjoy and I think I do a pretty good job at it. But I love it so much that I want to become better at and that moment I think is when an artist knows what they're truly good at. If not, then I know I'm great at drawing stick figures and facial expressions lol.

But here are a few of my drawings, I have a few that sucks and that's ok but it's good to say oh hey I'm getting better at this too! The two pictures below I freelanced in Draw Something 2. The eye (which is one thing I love to draw) was done on my iPhone while the Princess Kida was done on my HTC phone.

WTF Is A Blog?!

Many people today are blogging and consider themselves Blog experts or Blogger Extraordinaires. However, there is a large group of people who aren't sure what exactly a blog is or it's actual purpose. That's perfectly ok, when I first started blogging I had no clue what it was and to top it off I didn't know what I was doing either!

Now most people who give it a simpler definition calls it an online version of a diary or journal that's shared amongst the vast internet community. However I don't think it's a good definition. I rather say it's similiar to a keeping a journal but your not only sharing information or ideas or something you know that can help those around you, but you're getting to know those you reach as well as getting to know yourself. You just happen to keep a log or in this case a "journal" of your happenings and going-ons lol.

Google (see image below) gives a great definition of it in the most simplified way possible. Then I also know many people still aren't sure what the purpose of a blog is. So you document a few tidbits throughout the day or week and post a cute picture your friend shared on Facebook that you like but after awhile I can honestly say once you've covered that, you'll be stumped. I originally started my blog so that I could post my poetry unfortunately that idea fizzled out faster than a firework.

Now most people blog about a specific topic they may like or dislike or feel very strongly about. Others blog about brand new trends and happens. While another group picks or uses what they're good at (their niche) and make it a sell point to bring in customers (if they charge) or many followers. Like I said above, many people blog and many of the topics are discussed. So they're all about the same. Coming into the blog scene to talk about your favorite topic can be a bit challenge because there is someone else talking about it and you're now one blog out of 50,000+ other blogs!! Kind of intimidating. Then of course trying to get a little recognition from the other blogs is like high school. The upper classmen do not hang out with noobie freshmen. How Stuff Works has an interesting article on how blogs work and give a more in depth explanation. While Ask.com gives a short yet detailed definition with a few examples.

For me it was more of a emotional outlet. Nothing too crazy but I talked about what I couldn't talk about with friends or family. I felt better once I released it and moved on. Then I decided why pick one topic when I can do tons of topic?! I post about anything interesting and even things I find throughout the day. Pictures I've loved, inspirational things that uplift me and real stuff that others find inappropriate or too taboo for conversation. I like it better that way. I can keep up with my topics and not fizzle out like I'm writing a term paper. 

Since most bloggers in my age group are married or mommies or college graduate traveling gypsies. I bring something unique to the mix. I may not have a ton of followers nor have the recognition like those big name blogs out there (Perez Hilton is a good example) but I'm happy if I reached someone, or made their day or made them feel better about themselves or even let them know that they're definitely not alone in the goofball department and if they ever do feel alone they can come visit me. I'll always have something interesting for them. 

Toilet Paper Roll Craft

I saw this awesome craft and totally had to share it with everybody. I totally want to try this ^_^ maybe do it in black and rainbow flowers, that sounds awesome or hey even coordinate it when I finally paint my room haha.

Nailgasm Lesson #7

So while I was wandering about the internet, I came across something awesome!

It's not spectacular but it's totally worth it!

I know we all love those nail polish strips and stickers and wraps, but sometimes the colors are less than pleasing or just doesn't appeal to us, in any way or form. Heck you might want to see a better pattern or something exciting, right?!

Well, how about you make your own nail polish strips?? It'll make a nice summer activity and plus you can check out how you'd like to be a nail art connoisseur.

Anyway I came across this awesome tutorial about how to do it with your nail polish and a plastic sandwich baggy as just a good amount of patience. You can do something just as fabulous! I plan on adding this to the Bunny Bucket List hehehe. I especially liked the one girl's idea (at the bottom in the comments) about using parchment paper. I wonder if a wax paper would work, too.

Nailgasm Lesson #6

I found this awesomeness on Facebook. I found this to be completely shocking. Well not so much but to the point it made sense. If you're really into nail art like I am, some of the brush sets do come with the fan brush. If you're clueless it'll have you scratching your head. If you're into art, you'll be asking why the fuck is this here??? Thus I put it away like I did the rest of the nail art stuff lol.

However when I saw this and saw all the other designs that you could do with it. I actually became interested! Now ask me where my fan brush is at?? It's in some god forsaking place but I have a good idea. It's either in Narnia or Unicornland LOL!

Unfortunately since the picture tutorial doesn't give much for those who are first-timers or not sure what to do. I saw that someone had found the YouTube tutorial which gives a better understanding on how to do it and it's really awesome. I would've used a purple (lilac or something) instead of the darker blue because it took away from the pink and blue. But that's my personal opinion. You can do whatever colors you want to do :).

Nailgasm Lesson #5

When I saw this, I found this to be the most adorable, creative way to get those perfect and perfectly placed polka dots!!

Who would've thunk that a band aid would've come in handy for more than just fixing a paper cut (or a nail file cut lol). But it makes me wonder since a lot of band aids have smaller holes, would you still get the same effect or not?? Either way I guess it's worth a try if you find out which band aid brand works best for you.

Nailgasm Lesson #4

Well I'm sorry girls this isn't nail art. However this is important information!!

I know you all went through that moment in Nail Tragedy and you snag your nail or one of those wild tears, breaks or snaps appear! Don't you hate that?! Mine always would tear, however when I started eating Sunflower Seeds, it help them become a bit stronger and better and haven't much of a tear or snag that wasn't by accident.

Any this Nail Band Aid tutorial is absolutely fabulous and I think every gal and doll here needs to share this to infinity and beyond!!

Nailgasm Lesson #2

I thought this was cute, at first I assumed it was melting paint or drippy goo lol. I think if you're going to do an opage or gradient with this 3 different colors you should do so accordingly so the beholder will know these are clouds and not some runny liquid.

I did find another picture that use 3 different colors that helped a lot with the overall picture of it or at least I think so. I'll post two examples below the tutorial so you can see what I mean.

QR Codes Tutorial

So if you've stopped by my Goodies page, I'm sure you've wondered where the heck I got the colored QR Codes from?? Well I'm fin to tell you, plus I'll even get you another treat!! I found a website that gives you QR Code for your Facebook Page (those of you that have them and if not that's ok!) so you can either print it and post it somewhere (ask permission first!) or you can post it on your site or wherever you want!


But first things first! For the sake of things, we're going to use the Facebook Page as a main topic. Plus you can't blame me for doing a little bit of advertising lol.

So, to get an awesome code like this one to the left with the Facebook logo you have to visit Unitag Live. Now before you go off running, I want to make one thing clear that Facebook QR Code is a pre-designed template that cannot be re-design. However you can create your own with the way you want it to look and even fancy it up. Go ahead and scan it works, I checked lol.

I will say I like this website a lot better than many of the others I've come across that only offers, the plan black and white. That can be sort of boring and everybody has that! We want to be original and show not all QR codes aren't the same.


Just like how I reinvented the Facebook QR Code.

How fancy is that???

Ok so you can fancy it up and even change the colors if you want. I used the Facebook color (Hex #3B5998; RGB of 59, 89, 152), used my social media icon as the logo image, and changed the eye color (the light blue square). Let's see what other color combo we can come up with this time around.

Now I've played around with the colors and came up with a new QR Code, I left the logo in it so we aren't lost lol. But I'm happy with this one but not because of the color, here check it out and I'll continue:

Even though this one is colorful and full of pizazz, it's sort of faulty. Unfortunately with some QR Codes they won't always scan and it's possible you'll end up with a dud. The one above wouldn't scan well for me no matter how many times I tried. I've also learned that the lighter the color the harder it is to scan. So that pretty light pink, lemon chiffon and lilac are out of the question and would just be for pretty purposes only. I got one with a yellow section and it wouldn't scan at all. Out of the 7 I made, only 3 maybe 4 at the most actually work and work well. Bummer, but it happens so be careful of that kids.

Also another thing I wanted to point out is that QR Codes are meant to have a white back ground. You can if you want cut or get rid of the surrounding border, however doing a black background and white or light colored code, that thing will never scan!! Trust me I already tried quite a few times. The only one that comes close to something like that is using a Microsoft Tag code, which we'll talk about later. Maybe hopefully in the near future that'll change one day.

The other awesome thing about Unitag is that you can use a picture instead of the colors. Don't believe me??

So as you can see with Unitag, there are endless possibilities. Even if you want to spring for more options you can pay a subscription fee. However you can do it the Free way also and never be afraid to be Creative!!

Now for the second treat. While I was looking for ways to promote the Facebook Fan Page for the website and blog without having to bribe people. I came across this article on QR Codes by Squidoo.com. Not only do they go into full detail on what a QR Code is and how it works, but it gives a little insight on how they not only help you market whatever you're selling be it your blog, your clothing store or a brand name--you'll be able to reach more people oppose to the old fashioned way of marketing. For example maybe only a select few thousands of people still listen to the radio, if you place you ad on there and miss your target market, then that hurts your sales and commissions. Same goes for running a burger ad during a football game, if only a select majority will watch a specific football game it still hurts your sales. Same goes for your facebook page, if the people you are reaching via your blog are not your friends on Facebook, its not going to help you gain more followers in any way or form.

After the economic lesson we can move on lol, anyway Squidoo article also talked about another awesome website called SpotLike which gives you this PDF poster of a QR Code and a cute border saying how you should like the Facebook Fan Page. I actually like the idea of it and it is nice to post around to different places, and for those of you who are just starting a business or marketing something this would be great to post in your window or next flier you pass out or even stuff a few mailboxes if you want!!

So there's your tutorial on QR Codes, they're really quite simple and give that extra little bit of push you need when it comes to marketing oneself in this big old world of ours :D. So get out there and paint the world in colorful QR Codes!!

Image With Hover Effect

In the midst of deleting a page, I thought I would share this code with everybody about how to have an image change on the hover. Which means, the image looks one way and when your mouse is over the image it changes to another image.

I found this easy simple code via Spice Up Your Blog website. Out of the ones I found, this one was the easiest and it also worked without being tweaked or changed.

For an example I put one of the old buttons from the Keep In Touch page (that is now gone) to show you what it looks like with and without the hover effect below.

The World Flags Code

So since I decided to temporarily remove the world flags to see how things looked with the blog having more things to offer, I also thought I would put the code up for you guys and dolls.

Now before anything gets misconstrued, I did not originally create the code. I fixed it a bit because a lot of the flags icons or pictures turned out to have an error whatever the case maybe and unfortunately I couldn't find all the flags and since I never had geography in high school it took me a month or so to get it right lol.

Tinkerbell Sparkle Dust Cursor Trail

For those of you who are interested in where I got the Cursor Sparkle trail, or you happen to see it in the make a button tutorial. I'm here to give you the website from where I got it from.

I'll be honest it took me weeks to find the bloody website, because all the codes I found just didn't seem correct. Someeven wanted you to download pictures to save and then download something else and copy & paste that—it was absolutely horrid!!


Anyway the site I got the code from is called MF2FM unfortunately when I tried to open up the link the first time it wouldn't open. So I googled the name that the "creator" has it under which is Tinkerbell Sparkle Cursor. I finally found it, but it seems like nothing really comes up if you decide to look at the other cursor trails.

For the sake of all the Saké in Japan, I'll post the code below so if there's anyone else out there like who wants a good sparkle trail and can't find one or had this same one and wants an update.

Now for me I posted this code as a Blogger Widget instead into the HTML Template. It makes corrections easier and plus it won't show up on the blog. This code is actually in my footer, believe it or not. this code also works for tumblr, I've got it on mine! I bet it works on other sites too.

Blogging 101

So you think you can be a blogger, eh??



Well don't we all?? Lol.

I've been blogging, it'll be 5 years this up coming May, and believe it or not I just recently got the hang of it.

I've noticed from blogging and trying to stay with the current happenings. That many people are to abrupt with their feeling on this particular topic. They offer off-beat advice and crazy nonsense. That I have to sit there and wonder what the heck are they talking about??


When I first decided to blog, I was planning on posting my poetry on here. Unfortunately that was defeating the purpose since I already was publishing my work to a poetry site. I lost touch with the blog. Then one day while going though a problem that I couldn't freely discuss with friends or families. I decided to write it on here. It became a good stress reliever for me.

Then it turned into something more and I liked sharing my stories and day to day happenings and getting to know myself like you all would do. I decided then what I wanted to do with this blog.






Most bloggers say pick a topic and stick with it.

Well that's fine and dandy but if you have many things that interests you, it's hard to favor one and not the others. Then above all else continuously manufacture posts about this one topic. I honestly don't believe it's possible and if its not politics or celebrity gossip or even something like cooking—that's pretty hard to accomplish. However if you have a few topics you're knowledgeable about, by all means right them, you'll be surprised at the visitors you attract!

Bloggers say Market Yourself and Social Network.

Well yeah we all have a Facebook account and a tweet like bunch of birds on a phone line. However sometimes that's not good enough. Not to be disappointing. But look at it this way: I have over 600 friends on Facebook do you know how many of them read my blog?? I'm lucky if I get 5 of them to do so. Twitter, I've got over 1,000 followers and I haven't the foggiest clue as to how many (if at all) of them read my blog. So don't let that be a main marketing attribute. I can say I get tired of people asking me to like their page every day and then give nothin in return. Like I'm happy you're dieting or breast-feeding your 5th child, but I don't need to be included. Especially if you won't like my page...

Bloggers say post several times a day and you'll bring tons of visitors.

This is true. But there's a downside. Some of the posts will get knocked off or unseen or unread due to there being so many posts. I think the natural limit should be a minimum of 2 or 3 to a maximum of 7 posts a day. If you post 25 posts (like I did once) that's way too many, plus it clutters your followers' emails (if they're subscribed to your blog).

Bloggers say never make a mistake and always type professionally.

Ok, so like I'm all for that. But we've no spell checker or robots and a mistake is bound to happen. Maybe you entered the same word twice, or you misspelled a word or got distracted and messed up your sentence. I'll tell you now shit happens but don't let it get you down. We're human and mistakes are in our DNA and that helps us not only to take time out to correct the mistake (if we want to) but also improve ourselves as we go along. Besides you're not writing for the New York Times, you write how you want just as long as its legible for those who may be from foreign countries and happen to stumble upon your blog. You can't throw slang out there and expect them to understand. Trust me it doesn't work.

Your Blog, Your Rules, You're the #1 Fan

A lot of people have told me they hate the way my blog looks. It's too dark, the light colored text and OH MY GAWD did we mention that hideously ugly grotesque header??? Well no it might not be fabulous to you but I like it. I like this design a lot better than the last one which my side bar got cluttered and ran on for days. Plus this opened up more opportunities for pages and other areas of interests not just to me but for everyone else as well.

So in other words, your blog, your rules. You make it the way you want and add whatever content you like and dress it up in a template you fancy. Why?? Because you're your blog's number 1 fan. You'll be looking at it far more often than others do. Out of the 40,000+ views I have on my blog, I'll go so far as to bet that 30,000 of those views come from me lol. I have to check to make sure things look nice as well as delete posts that may have lost a photo I can't find anymore or even make room for improvement. Things happen and you have to update often. It won't be when you want like right now and done. Things change and as you go along so will the blog.

Now after reading all that, do you still want to blog?? I think you should. I may not have the blogs I follow and read listed on mine (because there's over 100 of them). It doesn't mean it's not nice to see a new blog every now and then. Never get discourage. Heck I stopped writing on my blog for almost 2 years. But now I'm back and I want to stick to it for a long time.

It'll all work it's kinks out eventually. If you're determined and willing you can have an awesome blog one day :).

The Hexagon

I've been using this color wheel inspired html color code hexagon back when I would made MySpace layouts and templates. Yeah that long kids lol. I'm a old head after all (and a sexy one if you don't mind my saying so!).

Anyway.

You're probably wondering what's so frigging special about this? Or how is this different from the other color codes options out there??

One thing: It offers an alternative.

When you get into color codes just to find the 6-character code by search engine is a breeze and easy. Then by this time colors like black (#000000) and white (#FFFFFF) become easy to recall. However there will come a day where you won't have the option to enter in the 6-character code and you'll be forced to enter a name like "pink" or "blue" or even better you have to enter the Red, Green, Blue values instead. The RGB values are most likely seen in Paint. If you every go to get a custom color not on the preset of colors, you'll see something similar to this:

Like I said, some are easy to remember like for example for the Color Black instead of inputting #000000 you would in stead put 0, 0, 0 (Red=0, Green=0, Blue=0). However don't think that works for all colors!! The Color White may be defined as #FFFFFF, but the RGB would be 255, 255, 255 (Red=255, Green=255, Blue=255). So any number between 0 to 255 can be used. Many combinations can be created and used.

But why go through the trouble when you've got the hexagon to give you a little cheat so to speak??

I did come across a website, The RGB to Hex Converter, that maybe be of some use. It gives both the color HTML code as well as RGB values. Which I find super and since this is the beginners circle we'll get more into colors later :).


So download and save that awesome hexagon to your computer or bookmark it to your browser so you can always refer back to it ok!!
